Upper Saddle River Recreation
Upper Saddle River is a borough in Bergen County in the northern part of New Jersey – just south of the New York State border.
It is an affluent and popular area, and in this guide we shall look at some of the recreational options that Upper Saddle River has to offer!
Country Clubs
Country Clubs are a great place to hang out with both your family and friends. They offer you all sorts of recreational activities including golf courses, swimming pools, restaurants, bars and more. It is also a fantastic way of socializing with other people from your neighborhood.
Whilst there are no country clubs in Upper Saddle River itself, there are plenty in surrounding neighborhoods that you can join. The Ramsey Golf and Country Club is particularly popular and is located Lakeside Drive in Ramsey. It is housed within a historic 19th century mansion surrounded with stunning landscaped gardens. The club includes facilities such as an 18-hole golf course, swimming pool, paddle tennis and several other activities.
Shopping
Upper Saddle River offers plenty of shopping opportunities for those of us who enjoy a bit of retail therapy!
You don’t need to travel very far outside of the township to find all of your favorite stores. There is TJ Maxx just down the road in Ramsey and the Ramsey Square Shopping Centre offers a huge range of well known brands for its residents and visitors.
Also in Ramsey (just a couple of miles from central Upper Saddle River) is the large Interstate Shopping Centre that has even more fantastic stores to look around as well as cafes, restaurants and a movie theatre.
In Upper Saddle River itself there are several small grocery stores and other stores selling basic necessities so you don’t need to head too far out for the basics.
And don’t forget – you are only a short drive away from one of the most exciting cities in the world – New York!
Nightlife
Upper Saddle River is a largely residential area which is known for being quiet and peaceful. As such there is very little nightlife in the area to speak of, however you don’t need to travel for to fulfill your night-time needs!
Liquid Ice Nightclub is a popular night club situated in Mahwah just over the border in New York State. Illusions Nightclub is another popular night spot for the under 35’s situated in Mahwah.
If you prefer a more relaxing evening you may want to head to one of the movie theatres situated around Upper Saddle River. The closest movie theatre is in the neighbouring township of Ramsey. The Ramsey Cinema is situated on E. Main Street.
Just across the New York State border in the township of Nyack there is an IMAX Theatre at the Palisades Centre – the ultimate big screen movie experience!
Parks and Open Areas
The majority of Upper Saddle River is built-up and there are very few large parks and open areas.
However, there are three main parks in the township – Lions Park, Hess Park and Liberty Pond Park. Many activities are held in the local parks. Liberty Park holds an annual Fishing Derby usually in the month of May. It is also host to the annual Upper Saddle River Day in September. Liberty Pond Park enjoyed a Rockin’ and Reelin’ Movie Night this year in June.
Just to the south of Upper Saddle River is the township of Saddle River where Rindlaub Park is a popular destination for families, runners, walkers and more particularly during the summer months.
Sports
There are many sporting associations in Upper Saddle River that residents of all ages can get involved in including the baseball, lacrosse, hockey, basketball, soccer, football and more. There are also ski and snowboarding trips for school-aged children as well as summer tennis clinics and more.
Restaurants
There are plenty of great places to eat in Upper Saddle River – no matter what type of cuisine tickles your taste buds!
Most of the restaurants are located in neighboring townships of Upper Saddle River, however you don’t need to drive far to find a great bite to eat.
Everyone loves Applebees, and fortunately for Upper Saddle River residents there is one not far away in Allendale. Allendale also has numerous other great restaurants including the popular Beantown Gourmet.
Just 1 mile south of Upper Saddle River is the Saddle River Inn. This popular restaurant is located in a historic rustic barn and serves up some of the best food in the region. The perfect place for a romantic night out!
