Location
Upper Saddle River is a borough situated in the county of Bergen in the northern end of the state of New Jersey just south of the New York border. It is one of the larger boroughs in the county with an area of 5.3 square miles.

Upper Saddle River is an affluent and attraction borough that is full of green tree-lined streets and large impressive homes – many of which date back as early as the 1700’s.
The area was first settled in the 1700’s largely by Dutch settlers who built mills along the banks of Saddle River. The area remained predominantly rural until the 1950’s when the suburban growth of New Jersey and New York City meant that areas such as Upper Saddle River increasingly became more residential. Today it is largely residential and there are very few areas that haven’t been developed.
Residents of Upper Saddle River have the best of both worlds – they get the benefits of a small, welcoming community whilst being within close proximity to one of the best cities in the world – New York! They also have some of the best performing public schools in the nation right on their doorstep.

There are just over 7,700 people that call Upper Saddle River home, and they live in 2,497 households. Over 80 percent of households contain married couples who are living together and only 10 percent are non-families.
House prices and salaries are typically very high in Upper Saddle River with most homes costing upwards of $800,000. The average household salary is upwards of $120,000 per year. Men are on an average salary of $100,000 whilst women earn an average of $52,000 per year.
Upper Saddle River and the neighboring Saddle River are amongst the highest per-capita income regions in New Jersey. However in recent years some low-income housing has been put up that has made the figures drop slightly.
Transport
There are several major roads that pass through Upper Saddle River including Route 17, West Saddle River Road, East Saddle River Road and Lake Street. The majority of residents of Upper Saddle River own private transport.
Community Services
Upper Saddle River has plenty of facilities and services for its residents and visitors. The majority of the commercial activity occurs along Route 17 on the town’s western border. The largest business based in Upper Saddle River is Pearson Education as well as the North American headquarters of Hunter Douglas.
The community consists of a public library, fire station, ambulance service, municipal hall and three schools that teach children up to grade 8.
Children above middle school age usually attend the public high school of Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale that services students from many different settlements around the area.
There are many events held in Upper Saddle River throughout the year including Memorial Day celebrations when the Fire Department holds a charity hot dog stand and Upper Saddle River Day is held each year around the 12th September.
